Anyone driving on the M5 between Exeter and Cullompton will have seen this big red building off to the side of the motorway; did you know however that it's home to the 2nd biggest producer of Teabag paper in the world? Our next customer profile looks at Devon Valley Mill: a food-grade paper mill in Hele.
Around 98% of the mill's produce is export, with the most popular products being Sausage Casing, Coffee Filter and Tea Bag & Overlay Papers. What appears to be an unassuming building is actually a large manufacturer with customers on a global scale!
Adjustable Hydraulic knives that cut the paper to select sizes are equipped with our hoses.
The paper mill has long been situated along the River Culm, with parts of the building dating back centuries. It was family-owned up until 1920 and has since been owned by multiple companies. Its latest buyout was by the Purico group in 2006; since then it has focused on specialised paper for the Food Industry.
Much like our previous profile on Sandford Orchards, the old walls are host to a now contemporary & 21st century production line; the machinery is all autonomous and just requires staff to monitor them and make sure everything is running smoothly; this surely must be a relief to the workers as it would be one heck of a lot of paper to make by hand!
Pneumatic Cylinders open and close massive vents.
Around the mill you will find all manner of Hydraulic and Pneumatic components provided and maintained by Derek Lane & Co. Devon Valley Mill has been a longstanding customer of ours and we look forward to continue doing business with them into the future!
